ISO/IEC 20000 is an industry standard for quality in IT service management processes. These service management processes deliver the best results that meet user's business needs in agreed-upon levels of resources, ensuring professional, cost-effective services with a understood and manageable level of risk.
ISO/IEC 20000 originated as a replacement for the British standard BS 15000. It consists of two parts:

1. The first part presents the specifications and requirements for IT Service Management. Organizations can be certified according to these specifications which represent the minimum requirements an organization should meet.
2. The second part provides a code of practice for service management, describing best practices for IT service processes within the mentioned specifications.

ISO 20000-1:2018:

  • Recommends that service providers adopt a common terminology and more consistent approach to service management.
